Many people travel frequently for work purposes in an increasingly global working environment. As such they no longer spend as much time at the office. A lot of people are allowed the flexibility of working from home and they also spend a lot of time hanging around airports, train stations and hotels as they commute from one place to another and they rely on their mobile phones more than ever.

Alongside the boom in mobile computing, the latest mobiles have become more sophisticated and the smart phone genre with its computing ability has led the market for a while now. Enabling people to run a complete operating system and providing a base for applications, the latest mobiles are much more than a call making device.

All business mobile phones will of course need to have calendar and diary applications, be able to send and receive emails on the move, connect to the internet and come with a camera and video recording capabilities. Particularly useful for the business traveller who finds themselves in different locations are mobile phones with a built in GPS system to help navigate around new cities.

Of course with the wide variety in the latest mobiles on the market, some will suit your requirements more than others, for example touchscreen phones are ideal if you need to read a lot of documents and watch video, but fall short if you need to do a lot of typing as using a touchscreen for typing can be cumbersome and slow.

You can overcome the typing issue by purchasing mobile phones with a Qwerty keypad. These usually come in two different formats, one where the keypad is placed underneath the screen and others with a keypad which slides out from underneath the screen. You may have to settle for a bulkier and heavier mobile if you opt for one of these.

Not all the latest mobiles are compatible with your existing software either. Make sure it will work with your office email and not all phones will allow you to view and edit Microsoft documents. If this is a big part of your working life make sure you have a phone which will work with you, not against you!

While the iPhone may be the original, don't discount the new contenders on the market using Symbian, Windows and Android or Blackberry operating systems. The Google Nexus by Samsung uses 2.3 Gingerbread, the most up to date version of Android and is a phone packed with features and a nice big screen. The HTC Desire HD is another competent rival to the iPhone, but a concession for increased power means that it is somewhat larger and heavier than other mobile phones on the market.

Apple are not the only players in the market for mobile phones. You might like to investigate phones on the Android operating system, like the Samsung Galaxy or the Google Nexus, also by Samsung. Another popular choice is the HTC Desire HD, a bigger and heavier phone, but with the weight comes a much more powerful phone with one of the best web browsers out there. The latest mobiles are always being replaced with a newer and better version of its predecessor so you are sure to find one which fits the bill eventually.
