How To Employ Reverse Lookup

The number shown on caller ID does not look familiar, and the caller did not leave a voice mail. You sent in a resume about a great job, and it is possible someone from the firm is trying to reach you. Of course, it could also be the organizer for an upcoming reunion, determined to enlist you for the decorating committee again. You would really like to know who called before you call them back, because you like to be prepared. The easiest way to find out is by using reverse lookup.

You can find many websites where you can enter the phone number and be rewarded with a name. Enter the term "reverse lookup" in the search window, and you will receive a long list to choose from. Click on the link to be taken to your selected site.

Once at the site, locate the proper line and enter the number, complete with its area code, you want to research. Any information found will be displayed. Normally, this consists of both the name and address shown for the account owner, but some sites only offer a name.

If no match is found, you might try entering it as a cell phone number. Some sites separate searches by land line and cell phone. Double check that you have entered the area code and phone number correctly.

If there is still no match found, there could be a couple of reasons. Some prepaid cell companies do not require users to register, so there is no data on file to find. Also, some companies, like debt collectors, keep the information on their land lines out of the database.

Most sites that offer reverse lookup for phone numbers also feature other searches, but some are not free. Depending on the site, you may be able to look up a name based on a social security number or get a list of all the residents at a particular address. You may also be able to find an email address by searching by name, or a home phone number. However, the sites are most often used for looking up names associated with phone numbers.
