Anyone will tell you, water is not good for a phone, it will cause corrosion. Ocean water, due to the salt content, and pool and tap water because of the chemicals contained, including chlorine. Corrosion can cause severe damage.

Any electronics professional will warn not to use a hair dryer on a wet cell phone or put it in the microwave. Corrosion and damage are actually increased by adding heat. Not only that, but the increase in heat could cause the battery in the cell phone to leak or explode.

It is important to follow certain steps after a phone gets wet. First, it is imperative to not turn the phone on after it gets wet, it can cause the battery to short out and produce permanent damage. Furthermore, upon getting wet, take out the cell phone battery. Then place the wet phone into a bag that can be sealed so no more further damage will occur. Some electronic specialists recommend putting a few silica packs in the bag for moisture absorption.

After the battery and SIM card has been removed, place the phone in a zip lock bag. It will prevent further damage. Many electronic technicians will suggest putting silica packs into the bag to absorb moisture. If silica packs are not available, individuals can try it with dry rice.

Rather than placing the phone in a bag, put it in the refrigerator. Yes, this seems odd, but it can actually help. It can actually get rid of water that is still remaining inside the phone. Place the phone in the refrigerator for twenty-five minutes. Take it out for ten minutes and repeat. Individuals should do this for a few hour intervals at a time for about forty eight hours.

If an individual is unsure about their capability in taking care of a water-logged phone, they can visit an electronics professional. They look at the phone, locate where the problem is, and will let the cell phone owner know if it can be restored. If repairs are extensive and costly, it might be more advantageous to buy a new cell phone.

There are solutions if a cell phone gets wet. The worst thing to do is panic, do something wrong, and cause further damage to a cell phone that could have been repaired, but now has to be replaced. Sometimes, all the phone needs is a few days to dry.
