These days, it's impossible not to find people on their cell phones at the same time doing something else. It's common to see them in any public place, or just outdoors, and even more for those who are driving their cars. We are such garrulous people, and we are so fond of our cell phones.

I could still recall the time when cell phones became available in the market. My friend and I each had one. The phones in the olden days were so big, it's like you're bringing a bag along. Our phones were with us the whole time so that me and my friend could chat on it as long as we wanted, we just chatted and chatted. I am embarrassed to say though that we used it while we were maneuvering our own vehicles. We thought we were so cool! Did you notice how the cell phones look right now? A lot has changed with the cell phones, from the clunky ones to what we now have which can perform numerous tasks, with the exception of windows! Our cell phones are a part of us, there's no way it's ever going to leave our side. Especially today, as women, traveling and moving about in the cities, it is a must for safety's sake.

You simply cannot drive safely if you are driving with one hand on the wheel holding your cell phone with the other. A research conducted by the University of Utah revealed that people who are on the phone while driving are similar to people who are drunk and driving. It's a disaster that is waiting around the bend. We don't advocate talking on the phone while driving, and there are some states that would like to ban cell phone use while driving - period. Still, people will continue to handle their cell phones every time they are in their cars until the day comes that they will not be able to do that anymore because the law says so. Nevertheless, a hand's free device is a better option for handling your cell phone and you will be able to maneuver your car with your two hands. And as of July 1, 2008, California Senate Bill 1613 states that you must use a hands free device if you are talking on your cell phone while driving. The bill prohibits driving and talking on the phone at the same time unless you have a hand's free gadget attached to your cell phone.

My husband who spends an incredible amount of time working on the computer will tell you his Blue Tooth Headset is a godsend. Sometimes he will have to help a client with computer related issues while talking at the same time and be on the phone for hours. It is very difficult to do this holding a cell phone and type at once and is extremely uncomfortable and unhealthy to try to cradle the phone in between the neck and shoulders. Now, it's impossible to separate my husband from the hand's free device that I acquired for him several years ago.

Holding the phone or cell phone through your neck and shoulder can cause nerve compression on the neck. This results in pain in the arms, hands, neck and shoulders and often causes headaches. This issue will be resolved by using a device that doesn't require hands to use it and the Blue Tooth Headset is one example that gives comfort to the user. It's manageable and doesn't require cords, it even sounds great. Motorola sells hands free devices that is sure to meet your various needs, in different shapes and designs. There is also a speakerphone for your car that clips to the visor. A wireless headset is not even necessary and it is not against the law in the California state when you drive using this.

So, remember, obey all rules of the road, and for heaven's sake practice safe driving, and if you are going to talk on the phone, use a hand's free device.
