Mobile phones started out as gadgets that perform voice calls to other mobile phone users. As mobile technologies improved, mobile phones started to get more sophisticated as the screens started to get bigger. These advancements opened up the possibilities of sending text messages. Coloured screens allowed better use of multimedia and web functionality and the use of touch screens enhanced web connectivity even further since the touch screens can be larger to replace the physical buttons. Ever since makers have added fully operational operating systems and ecosystems started to form on mobile phones. People have access to mobile phone deals and mobile phone contracts may use their phones in ways that were previously unlikely.

Gaming isn't necessarily a new feature in the world of mobile phones but statistics show that mobiles are actually making an impact on the sales of handheld consoles. Manufacturers are taking advantage by pushing their mobile deals even further by illustrating how good their phones are in playing 3D and casual games.

The ecosystems of each major mobile operating system continue to expand which is good news for people with contracts. The more applications that are available, the larger the ecosystem is as more people try out different applications that suit their needs. Many of these applications add an unlikely use of a mobile phone which involves scanning. Examples of such scanning apps include barcode scanners, business card readers that use the camera to accurate capture a business card, and smarter programs that can identify objects through recognition technologies while using the Internet wirelessly to obtain additional information.

Mobile deals may also highlight GPS as a main function because more people are starting to realise the benefits of GPS. It plays a role in location tracking services which can be used to aid authorities. There are many true stories about lives being saved and people found thanks to the use of mobile phone tracking. While criminals may leverage the technology in their favour, law enforcement can use the same tools to track and apprehend these criminals.

Hacking is a process that usually involves a computer but the latest mobiles show how powerful and versatile mobile phones can be these days. With many mobile phones having Wi-Fi, 3G, and even 4G capabilities, these phones are more connected to the Internet than ever before. With their operating systems, these phones are technically computers where hackers can use compatible tools to do things like spying or breaking into computers remotely. Fortunately, operating system developers continue to release updates that patch any flaws making it more difficult for hackers to be successful so those with mobile phone contracts should not worry.

Using a phone as an electronic wallet is perhaps one of the most unlikely uses until recently when retailers, operating system developers, and online services are teaming up to provide an easier experience for customers to do their shopping. Thanks to the advancements of encryption, people can finally use their mobile phones to buy at selected areas that support it without exposing private information and the like.

Not everyone is open for these ideas but it is safe to say that mobile phone deals are a lot more tempting because of these unlikely uses now becoming possibilities. These open possibilities will bring convenience to the average customer as long as manufacturers remain in control and continue to support it.
