When smart phones were released out to the public, they were more than just a more powerful phone with "advanced" features. After all, outside of superior portability, what did these devices deliver that the other gadgets in our lives didn't do better? But the times are changing. even has a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, which is faster than some computers were not that long ago. The new HTC Evo 3D also supports three-dimensional movies and other such video files.

So with this kind of power on the horizon, it's time that we start to evaluate these phones by comparing them to the other gadgets we use. We know that this phone will be amazing cell phone and that it will boast a fantastic range of accessories to expand its possibilities. But how does it stack up against the other entertainment devices in our lives? Can it fully replace our beloved Apple iPod? Can it take the place of our handheld gaming device, such as a Nintendo 3DS? Well, let's find out.

While the Apple iPod has come a really long way since its humble origins, when the iPod Touch released, the iPod versus smart phone debate became a lot more complex. The big drawback to the iPod touch was that you could only use it where Wi-Fi was available. The big advantages were that it had a lower monthly bill associated with it, was a dedicated music player and it could play games better than smart phones could. Yes, the non-touch screen iPod may be the cheaper option, but that isn't necessarily true. This device has better music support and sound quality than the iPod does. It also boasts more power, smoother performance and a much wider game library.

The big advantage to the Nintendo 3DS over a smart phones was that the Nintendo handheld had 3D. Some cell phones did too, but early on there were issues, such problems displaying 2D. Phones like the HTC Evo 3D, those issues are all gone, so this becomes a debate with merit. The obvious advantage to the Nintendo unit is the control scheme, which is set up for game interaction. The HTC Evo 3D also has to be a lot more versatile, but has to put in front of it. However, you can buy accessories, such as a case or a screen protector, which they gear specifically for gamers. There's even a handy base which turns your Evo 3D into a movie station or a handheld gamer.

For most of us, a cell phone is a must-have. You can't just go on with having one on you. In the past, these other gadgets, such as the iPod and the 3DS, were there to fill in the gaps between our smart phone, computer and TV and entertainment center. But now that smart phones like this mobile device are so sophisticated, it has become a realistic option to eschew toys like the 3DS and iPod in favor of upgrades elsewhere. The bottom line is that this phone stacks up quite well to the iPod, the Nintendo 3DS and a wide range of other devices.
