Back in the 80's when you used to go to the cinema and watch those really bad 3D movies sitting there in the dark with those really bad red and green 3D glasses on, you would never have thought that the technology would come so far. Nowadays you can get 3D on all sorts of technology products from TVs to now even on hand held mobile devices.
HTC has in recent times become a major up and coming brand, bringing out a wide range of smartphones designed to take on the bigger market players like the iPhone. The HTC EVO 3D is their latest phone offering and the thing that makes it stand out from the crowd is its 3D capability. It also utilises the latest Android and HTC Sense technology user interface and has all the features you might expect from HTC.
Unlike 3D movies in the cinema the HTC EVO doesn't require 3D glasses in order to enjoy. All forms of media - video, pictures and movies can be viewed on the 4.3inch display in 3D. A big plus for the phone is the ability to shoot home movies/ videos with the intention of then watching them back at home via your TV - it is unlikely at present for anyone to watch latest cinema release on your phone.
The camera itself is a dual 5 MP, making it possible to shoot 3D videos which you can then also watch on other 3D devices. IT is worth noting that 3D capability aside the phone isn't sufficiently better from any other HTC device on the market.
The design is large and pretty cumbersome, the cameras on the back are placed such that they always seem to get in the way when making phone calls, and the speaker is not the loudest or well placed on the phone. If you are looking for a 3D phone then there are other better phones on the market so make sure to check these ones out as well. Check out reviews such as the LG Optimus 3D review which gives plenty more options and can show you which phones with the 3D capability are still good enough to compete against the rest.
The UK is still waiting for a price to be announced and that may be the biggest influence when making a decision to go with the EVO or not. But with a great user interface in the form of Sense from HTC and Android, as always, running smoothly (as on all HTC models) and the stereoscopic effect being as good as any phone currently available on the market today, it could still be a great option.
