Electronics are a big part of everyone's life now, so it is no surprise when little accidents happen and we are faced with learning how to fix a phone with water damage. The accident may happen when you are about to use the toilet and the device slips out of your pocket and falls in the urinal. It might happen when you are fumbling in your handbag and the cellular falls in your drink, one never knows.
Liquids that come in contact with electronic devices can spell disaster to some people. But if you act quickly enough, you can prevent damage before it even happens. Once the liquid has penetrated the device, the first thing one should do is dry off the external parts of the unit and take the device apart to dry off the internal parts as best they can.
The battery pack is the first thing that one should separate from the unit, along with the sim card. After this is done, separate these parts and fill a container with alcohol and soak the rest of the unit in the alcohol to displace unwanted liquids for three minutes. Displacing the liquids is important because you don't want these liquids corroding the metal parts of your phone.
For those people who have dropped their cellphones into coffee or juice, it may be a good idea to soak the cell first in distilled water. The distilled water will get rid of the stickiness that might occur inside the phone parts. Make sure that you remove the sim card and the battery first before doing this. Soaking in alcohol after will help displace the remaining liquid.
Dry the device on a highly absorbent material or cloth. It is helpful to place it directly in front of an air conditioning unit so that it dries off using cool, dry air. You may also help the process along by absorbing liquids using earbuds and cotton. Two hours in dry air, and shaking the device once in a while to dislodge liquids, will give you a dry unit that you can test.
Sometimes turning on a hair dryer at low heat and lightly passing it over the device once in a while will help. Once you know the device is completely dry, put it together, with the battery and sim card, and try turning it on.
This method of fixing a waterlogged unit has been a traditional and successful way on how to fix a phone with water damage. However, if the device no longer turns on even after you have followed instructions it may be time to bring it back to the manufacturer and get it looked at by a technician.
