The Blackberry Torch by RIM is a much-needed improvement over the earlier phones in the company's lineup. With an increased central processing speed, stronger web browsing capability, and many improvements in usability, it's a great new best in class phone from the manufacturer that brought us the original Blackberry. It is almost sure to impress users of other phones on platforms such as Android and iPhone.
One of the first things on the Blackberry Torch that sets it apart is its newly redone web browser. With the new browser, Blackberry has finally brought its internet browsing capability up to what Android and iPhone have to offer. It's usually pretty fast, and you can zoom in and out using the multitouch screen. When you press and hold a link it's also easy to open a link in another tab. However there is no Flash support, so that can make things a bit difficult.
With a 624 MHz processor inside of it, The Torch has more than adequate processing power for almost all its tasks. You can accomplish almost any task with ease, from rendering web pages to watching video or even just checking email. It doesn't matter what you're doing - opening apps or running your GPS - the Torch does its job well with the processor it has.
One of the most distinctive features on the Torch is the universal search tool. On the homescreen's search tool, you can find whatever you want whether it's on the phone or on the internet. Maybe you need a phone number, or maybe you want to read the review of a restaurant. With the search tool you can do both, or almost anything else in between. Also the Blackberry maps application works wonderfully with the integrated GPS, rivaling the performance of Google Maps on Android devices.
Another feature worth mention is the five-megapixel camera. With it you can take high definition pictures and store them on the phone. You can even record 640x480 video clips on the phone and then store them. Whatever you want to do with your videos or pictures, there's are at least some options on the Blackberry Torch.
In short, the Blackberry Torch is a well rounded phone with a slide out keyboard. It's got good smartphone capabilities, especially the universal search button. The processing speed is adequate, and the video capture and picture capability is just right. The multitouch screen is what we've come to expect from smartphones, and finally the internet capability is up to speed on the Blackberry like it is on other Android or iPhones.
