The Blackberry Torch by RIM is a much-needed improvement over the earlier phones in the company's lineup. With an increased central processing speed, stronger web browsing capability, and many improvements in usability, it's a great new best in class phone from the manufacturer that brought us the original Blackberry. It is almost sure to impress users of other phones on platforms such as Android and iPhone.

One of the first things on the Blackberry Torch that sets it apart is its newly redone web browser. With the new browser, Blackberry has finally brought its internet browsing capability up to what Android and iPhone have to offer. It's usually pretty fast, and you can zoom in and out using the multitouch screen. When you press and hold a link it's also easy to open a link in another tab. However there is no Flash support, so that can make things a bit difficult.

With a 624 MHz processor inside of it, The Torch has more than adequate processing power for almost all its tasks. You can accomplish almost any task with ease, from rendering web pages to watching video or even just checking email. It doesn't matter what you're doing - opening apps or running your GPS - the Torch does its job well with the processor it has.

One of the most distinctive features on the Torch is the universal search tool. On the homescreen's search tool, you can find whatever you want whether it's on the phone or on the internet. Maybe you need a phone number, or maybe you want to read the review of a restaurant. With the search tool you can do both, or almost anything else in between. Also the Blackberry maps application works wonderfully with the integrated GPS, rivaling the performance of Google Maps on Android devices.

Another feature worth mention is the five-megapixel camera. With it you can take high definition pictures and store them on the phone. You can even record 640x480 video clips on the phone and then store them. Whatever you want to do with your videos or pictures, there's are at least some options on the Blackberry Torch.

In short, the Blackberry Torch is a well rounded phone with a slide out keyboard. It's got good smartphone capabilities, especially the universal search button. The processing speed is adequate, and the video capture and picture capability is just right. The multitouch screen is what we've come to expect from smartphones, and finally the internet capability is up to speed on the Blackberry like it is on other Android or iPhones.

There is no doubting that the Blackberry Torch packs a lot into its tiny frame. In fact, the Blackberry Torch isn't too much larger than a credit card and is only about .57 inches thick. At roughly 4.37 inches in height and 2.4 inches in width, the Blackberry Torch has enough room for a decent sized screen. These tiny sizes also mean that it's small enough to go just about everywhere and, of course, small enough to lose as well. Yet, this is often the case with most of the new generation of smartphones.

The display is about 3 inches when measured diagonally and provides crisp images on a HVGA+ 480x360 screen. This helps make navigating websites and watching videos a solid experience. You can expect the Blackberry Torch to deliver a respectable overall performance. In particular, many users will appreciate the expandable memory option. This smartphone comes with 512 MB and a 4 GB media card, which can be expanded up 32 GB. Those using the Blackberry for business will appreciate its expandable nature.

Using the Blackberry Torch as a entertainment device should be a breeze for most users as this smartphone supports the more widely used video formats such MPEG 4, H.263, H.264 and WMV3 as well as audio formats such as MP3 and others. Meaning that with a little planning on your end, you should have entertainment at your fingertips whenever is needed.

Most savvy gadget and smartphone users have learned over the years to keep a sharp eye on battery life. You can expect around thirty hours of music playback, six hours of video playback and about five hours of talk time from the Blackberry Torch.

Overall, the Torch is a device that promises a lot but also delivers a lot. There is no doubt that it can effectively replace many gadgets in one easy to carry package. The Blackberry Torch does a lot and delivers it in a small package.

The 9105 is a huge step forward for this type of technology. This next generation of smart phone comes with GPS and Wi-Fi.

The smaller, slimmer look of this device makes it a much more attractive phone than previous Blackberrys. This smaller size however, does not mean that there are important features missing from the Blackberry Pearl 3G in fact there is more than ever. With this phone you will actually have the ability to make videos and take photographs as well.

There is an updated keyboard on the Blackberry Pearl 3G and it comes with many different shortcut keys. These are great for making it much quicker when writing texts or emails. The hotkeys also allow you to move between functions a lot more smoothly. Your device will be even more fun and much easier to use once you have built up your own shortcut key library but this will probably take a while. This phone has also signaled a change from Blackberry with a move towards the standard keyboard that you can find on similar devices some people complained the previous system was a bit confusing.

The Pearl 3G has replaced the tracker ball that could be found on previous incarnations and replaced this with an optical mouse. Taking A Look At The Blackberry Pearl 3G

The one thing that comes to my mind when I think about the Blackberry Pearl 3G is that it is a bit different from the normal Blackberry. To be honest, the older versions of this device don't really appeal to me on an aesthetic level; they just don't look very good in my opinion. However, this new model is different and I actually like the fact that it is small and slim and something that I would not be at all worried about being seen with. And what's even better about it is the fact that the small size does not mean that any of the great features have been sacrificed; in fact if anything it is even better with the most up to date versions of GPS and Wi-Fi.

One of the other noticeable features of the Blackberry Pearl 3G is the screen which stands out immediately. Although it is small, it is very attractive and bright.

Viewing photos and watching videos is really easy and even more so when you use landscape mode. The camera on this phone is really good and with perfect picture quality you can watch videos etc on the phone. You can also surf the web to go on social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook and the screen is good enough for this.

A criticism of other Blackberry smart phones has been the fact that the keyboards have been so tricky. However the makers have decided to drop their old keyboard format for this model and use the same one that all other phones use as it is much less confusing.

This new Blackberry Pearl 3G has also done away with the tracker ball mouse and replaced it with an optical mouse this is far more responsive and less likely to develop problems. You will also find that there are many great shortcuts which will save you time and plenty of hot keys as well.

Mobile Applications - Gold Mine?

Posted by gcfraley / Category:

By Alastair Espie

Mobile applications date back to the first cellphones nearly twenty years ago. However, it is in recent years that they have really been put front and centre with the release of advanced smartphones such as the iPhone and Blackberry. In short, mobile applications are programs, often downloadable, that allow phones to serve an extraordinary range of functions. Amongst other things, they come in the form of productivity assistants, communicative and social networking agents, or just straight entertainment in the way of games and music players. The thing about mobile applications is that there is no limit to what they can be and what they can do. With the rapid development of mobile phone technology and dramatically improved infrastructure, there are very few constraints on what applications can do.

Mobile applications first came about around the same time as mobile phones. In particular, SMS messaging was one of the first applications to be incorporated into handsets and is still the most widely used today. However, early mobile applications were constrained by the phones of the time and their limited capacity to access the Internet.

It wasn't until the release of smartphones capable of browsing the web like a home computer that applications really developed into the complex and diverse programs we have today. Because even the most inexpensive phones on the market are capable of running most applications, developers have worked quickly to release programs for almost every conceivable purpose. Handset developers have also put much emphasis on developing phones that are capable of running more and more sophisticated applications. It has become a reality of the modern mobile phone industry that consumers consider a phones ability to run applications as, if not more, important than its more traditional calling functions.

Currently, most mobile applications are downloadable and for offline use. Google though is hard at work on developing web-based applications. While this means users will require a reliable internet connection, wireless networks are quickly becoming more dependable and far reaching. Offering applications that don't need to be downloaded allows developers a far greater scope to be creative and push the limits of what is possible. Along with the development of 4G networks capable of handling far greater quantities of information, it is clear that both the quality and complexity of applications will continue to develop substantially.

Mobile applications present a unique opportunity to advertise when consumers are active and away from other forms of media. Because of the diversity of applications available, they appeal to all aspects of society. Inserting advert into applications therefore has the potential to reach substantial markets. With web-based applications, this potential only increases.

The Best Of The BlackBerry Torch

Posted by gcfraley / Category:

By Kevin Spendikster

The BlackBerry Torch is the newest edition to the popular BlackBerry line from AT&T and RIM (Research In Motion). The phone is a high profile smart phone combined with traditional BlackBerry features. BlackBerry incorporates a complete touchscreen design into their Torch and removes the keyboard-the very same keyboard that is a familiar asset to all who use the traditionally designed BlackBerries. Even though the physical keyboard isn't as accessible as it once was, the Torch still comes fully equipped with a slide out full qwerty keyboard.

The premiere attraction is the touch screen featuring multi-touch capabilities. With so much real estate to control, it would be wise to consider purchasing a screen protector. A screen protector is a great way to keep fingerprints off the glass while still allowing its fully featured touch capabilities. The best screen protector is the Invisible Shield. Not only does it have a reputation for keeping touchscreens safe and protected from outside influences, but it is also made form a highly regarded military grade material. Constructed to fit the BlackBerry Torch specifically, the Invisible Shield will keep the glass from scratching while remaining unscathed itself. It has a lifetime warranty and a 45-day money back guarantee.

Additionally available for this phone are tons of cases. These cases come in a variety of styles and colors. They are also made from different materials such as leather, vinyl and fabric, among others. Protecting the phone with cases will keep the entire phone safe from unwanted surface damage. For example, the cases made by AG Findings such as the Glide Rail Technology Shell and the Premium Leather Pouch are all made to fit the specifications of the Torch. These cases offer protection a different way; the Technology Shell attaches to itself so that you never lose the phone and it comes with two interchangeable front casings.

Other accessories include Charging/Sync Pod that cradles the Torch while laying on its side and allows the phone to charge without attaching a cable to it. Additionally available are extra batteries so that the user can switch them immediately should he not have a place to charge the cell phone. MicroUSB chargers are also one of the most popular BlackBerry accessories because they can go anywhere and plug into a car cigarette lighter allowing the phone to charge up when not in use and still on the go.

Anyone purchasing a BlackBerry Torch knows that he cannot have one without the proper accessories that will not only keep the phone safe, but keep it running as well.
